5 Exercises You Are Not Doing That Could Improve Your CrossFit

If you are an avid CrossFitter, you have heard this phrase before: “Constantly varied, functional movements at high intensities.” CrossFit athletes pride themselves on being ready for any athletic event at any time, training across multiple training modalities that include running, biking swimming, weightlifting, jumping, and gymnastics. While any well-developed CrossFit program does cover a lot of ground, there are a few exercises I feel that CF folks would benefit from that I very rarely see these in a CrossFit program.

As a licensed acupuncturist I have been trained in numerous treatments and protocols to help this condition, but I wanted to pick techniques that wouldn’t require any special knowledge or training to do. These three therapeutic techniques are intended to be used after the acute-phase of the injury, which is the first four days after the incident.
Remember that after a neck strain/sprain, the muscles in the neck will often become tight, guarding the affected area and limiting motion and mobility.Anything that can be done to safely alleviate muscle tension, improve range of motion, and promote blood circulation to the affected area, is going to help the healing process.ReadMore

Growth Hormone, Estrogen, and Testosterone

First, we make more growth hormone than men. Weird, right? It’s a pretty darn anabolic hormone and given that men are generally so much bigger and more muscular than us ladies, it seems odd that we make more. How is it we aren’t hulking she-beasts? Well, while there aren’t a lot of studies out there discussing this, I feel we don’t get as muscular as men largely due to the fact we do not make as much testosterone as men. Yes, while we make a lot of growth hormone, without coupling that with testosterone, muscle growth is limited.Readmore
